Most stylists can learn the fundamentals in a structured 4-hour online masterclass, but real confidence comes from practice. The Beauty Lab GC online courses are designed so you can move through the theory at your own pace, then apply it on practice hair before taking paying clients. Most stylists feel ready to take bookings within a few weeks of completing a course.

This varies by location, experience, and how you price your service, but specialising in extensions consistently outperforms general hairdressing on a per-client basis. A full head of extensions in Australia typically charges between $800 and $2,500+ depending on the method, hair quality, and stylist. Many specialists work fewer days per week and earn more than they did doing full-service hairdressing, that's the whole point of specialising.

Quality hair extensions typically last 6 to 12 months with proper care, with maintenance appointments every 6 to 10 weeks to move them up as the natural hair grows. The longevity depends on the method, the quality of the hair, and how the client looks after them at home, all things covered in the training.

In Australia, you don't need a formal hairdressing qualification to learn or apply hair extensions, but having salon experience helps a lot. The Beauty Lab GC courses are designed for working hairdressers and stylists who already understand cutting, colour, and consultation. There are several methods used in Australia, the main ones being tape extensions, flat track wefts, and other sew-in styles. Tape extensions are 4cm pre-taped wefts applied in sandwich-style bonds, fast to apply and gentle on fine to medium hair. Flat track wefts are sewn onto a beaded track and sit flat against the head, ideal for thicker hair and longer wear. The right method depends on your hair type, lifestyle, and budget, Maddy works through all of this in the consultation, and the Beauty Lab GC courses train stylists in every method so they can recommend the right one for each client.
